EPW053675 ENGLAND (1937). Harrow School bathing place adjacent to the Watford Road, North Wembley, 1937

I understand that it was built on the site of a farm pond belonging to the adjacent Sheepcote Farm and was fed by a local stream. Something unlikely to pass muster with the health authorities today. It must once have been well managed with its own caretaker. There was once an old lodge cottage at the Watford Road end where, presumably, the caretaker lived (possibly also, an assistant, as I remember it being a double cottage) . I would guess that the land on which Ducker lies was gifted to Harrow School by the then landowner George Rushout - Lord Northwick, who was a governor of Harrow School and the overall landlord to Sheepcote Farm. A much greater area of the estate land was subsequently obtained by Harrow School, who were anxious to mitigate the effects of anticipated suburban development on Northwick Estate land bordering land already owned by Harrow School. This land was leased to The Hill (later Northwick Park) Golf Club. Much of it lies beneath what is now Northwick Park Hospital and the Westminster University campus. The remaining area is open space and leisure facilities.
