This was Prospect Place, the last waterfront houses of "old Southend". They were demolished in the raising of the Flood defenses after the 1953 storm-surge floods.

This is the "pretty and sightly" TSMV Princess Maud of the Southend motor navigation Co. Ltd., owned by W.H. "Bill" WILSON [ex-CPO(MEM) RN, Rtd.] Commandeered by the Royal navy for the Dunkirk evacuation, and her Owner was never told what happened to her

TSMV "New Royal Sovereign", built 1928, first season trading from the Foreshore, 1929; -and sold to new owner in Bridlington in 1936. Commandeered in RN in 1940; sunk in Bridlington harbour in 1941 by Luftwaffe aerial bomb. The Jetty was almost certainly demolished during the invasion scares after the Fall Of France in June 1940. There was no sign of the jetty when the Esplanade was de-militarised and opened to the Public again in 1945.
