 This building was the Co-op cinema, it is shown on the 1915 edition of the 25 inch Ordnance Survey map, to the rear of the row of shops that were the original premises of the Prestwich Co-op before they were replaced by Tower Buildings, Access was via the short entry to the side of the White Horse pub. As the 1907 edition of the map is not available on the NLS website I haven't been able to verify the early history of the building. However some of the interior fittings of the building could be seen when Tower Buildings was being demolished. |

| This is a road train consisting of three heavy waggons being hauled by a steam traction engine. The tram lines are not strong enough to support railway waggons, and in any case it would be impossible to run the tram system if freight traffic were to be mixed with passenger tramcars. The road train would have to move to the side of the road away from the tramlines to allow the trams to pass. Whatever load is being carried (it could be bales of cotton) would be for delivery to a destination with no rail access. |

| The only reason I can see for this train to be running down a public highway is that it maybe heading for the Prestwich Mental Hospital, which is further along this road to the left. Some of these establishments were rail saved in years gone by but was this one? There is no reference to such a set up on their website and the two photographs on this website are not clear enough. I would welcome any comments. |

It appears to be a road train pulled by a traction engine. Carrying freight on tram tracks would lead to disruption of passenger services and probably overload the track. There was no tram line into Prestwich Hospital |
