| It's quite interesting to see how much more elaborate and well-tended are the rear gardens of houses as here in Wellacre Road. It was all a part of the Metro-Land dream. Being a new estate, there is little in the way of mature trees. Most front gardens are now a thing of the past, having been given over to ugly hard standing for the two or more motor cars in each household. |

It was some years before the masons got hold of it. I do no not believe that they acquired it until 1954. It was known formerly as the Palaestra, a private sports and social club intended for local residents of the Northwick Estate. The intention by Capt Edward G Spencer-Churchill (the former landowner) was that the Northwick Estate should be a deal more exclusive than it eventually came to be. |
