The Magheramorne cement works was set up in 1911, the site having previously made lime for a century. It operated until 1980. Between 1924 and 1937 (when the Drogheda and Limerick plants were started), it was the only cement plant in Ireland. With the two original kilns seen here, it made about 85,000 tonnes a year.
