As a child I visted my mother's relatives in the late 50's, at that time staying in Bishop Avenue I don't think the houses were even built in this picture, they were post war system built houses - possibly poured concrete - and had to be pulled down in the 70's I think due to structural falts in he design,and new houses built in same place , I vivedly remember seeing coal trains so long they would nearly have filled the whole length of the rail way line in the picture Our male relatives work in the Nellie colliery in nearest the foreground . Some had also worked in the Frances and Jeny Gray pits . When the mines closed, most went to England.
