This is the site of the Queens Park recreation grounds, currently comprising some very overgrown red ash football pitches, a disused changing room building and a small skate park. part of the site to the south west is occupied by the new Victoria hospital.

These look to me very like the outline of tents, and since this is where the circus still pitches up (albeit on a smaller scale) I'm wondering if there was some kind of entertainment here for a while in multiple tents that made these patches

I am surprised no one has asked about or commented on these rather strange patterns on the ground. Are they the result of flooding? The rest of the picture looks dry, so that is unlikely. Are they the preparation of a new surface, with soil spread over depressions? But there is no sign of 'works' going on. Or has the ground just been worn out by over use.... unlikely in December! Whatever it was it clearly had some visual impact at the time.

Thats Queens Park Recs where the ash football parks used to be. I think the patches are the result of the football being played there on the ash.
