The original (southern) wing of the Green Man pub may have been built in the 16th century (pictured here in 1864: http://www.history-in-pictures.co.uk/store/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=3438). It was torn down and rebuilt as flats in approximately the same shape with new materials in 2015 or so. A great loss. It was part of a tiny hamlet at the brow of the hill just outside the deer park. An extant 18th century building is next door to the site and another across the street

This crescent of nine tall Victorian homes was build in the second half of the 19th century and demolished to clear the site for the Odeon (Eow everyman) cinema, shops & flats complex in the late 1930s. The height of the cinema was determined by the height of the now vanished homes.

The 2nd St James CoE, built 1901-2.The tower & spire were added in 1910. Two incendiary bombs gutted the interior in 1941. Refurbishment was completed in 1952. The 1st St James (on the same site) was built in 1842. There is a Victorian-era pillar box outside the church.
