EPW037872 ENGLAND (1932). Construction of drainage system by the River Crane at Cranford Bridge, Cranford, 1932

This is just off the north east corner of todays London Heathrow airport. Today the site of the construction work seen here remains as an open space marked Avenue Park on the OS map that is part of Cranford Park in the fields beyond the river and the belt of trees.



This is described as a drainage system.



However seem of the characteristics are perhaps suggestive of an underground reservoir under construction by the cut and cover method.



The narrow gauge railway system seems to be suppling concrete in hand pushed tipper wagons to what seem like moulds for curved shape concrete slabs.



There are large amounts of other pieces of cast concrete around the site. However, there does not seem to be a concrete making plant.



All a bit of mystery. Is there a reservoir under Avenue Park or was the site being used to provide materials for another project?
