Friends (Quakers) Meeting House, Derby Rd. The Quakers moved to new premises in Church Rd in 1953. The corrugated iron building was used by the 'Emmanuel Pentecostal Church' until demolition in (approx) 1962 for the construction of a ring road. Photo shows a wedding group in 1934.

Hi there - I am the Senior Minister of Wellspring Church, formerly the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church! Can I ask for a higher resolution of this image for our records?

Thanks so much

Derby Road Endowed School for Boys and Girls, opened by the Earl of Clarendon on April 21/22, 1884. Increasing numbers over the next 20 years meant a move for the girls to The Crescent/Lady's Close in 1907 and for the boys to Rickmansworth Road in five years later, to form the modern day Watford Grammar Schools.

Seems like a rather vibrant area at the time. I think that the building of A411 ring road isolated it and has virtually killed it off.

Another exceptional image of the urban core of Watford during the early 1930s, when the total population topped 56,000, and would continue to grow throughout the decade to reach 65,000 by the outbreak of hostilities in September 1939, an overall increase of almost 50% since 1919.
