NUMBER 1 Railway cottages occupied by my family between 1939-2008. My grandfather was the ganger responsible for stretch of mainline between Hessle Haven and Hessle East. Earthworks for a hump shunting yard, known as "New Inward Yard". Wagons would be uncoupled from their arriving train and be pushed over this artificial hill and gravity would allow them to roll into sidings to be recouped into another train.
