The tanker in the foreground belongs to the Eagle Oil Company of London. They later merged into Shell. Alongside is a luggage lighter used to transport vehicle across the Mersey, and at the bows two of the Mersey ferries.

That is a vey large tanker for this period but the date is supported - by the lack of development on Beaufort Road and the surrounding areas - great photo

The year before Bidston Dock, to right, opened. The Penny Bridge can be seen. The graving dock, at the extreme left of the photo, is still extant as part of the resurgent Cammell Laird company.
