These bridges without track may be part of the preparations for building the enlarge Margate West station, which required the widening of the line to four tracks at this point. This was part of wider changes to the old LCDR and SER lines in east Kent to eliminate terminal stations nor only in Margate but also in Ramsgate and provide the through route used today. This was one of the most rapid and obvious impacts of the arrival of the Southern Railway rationalising its routes and station where its constituent companies had been in wasteful competition.

These coaches appear to be a through train from the Great Western Railway standing in Margate Sands station. By 1926 this station terminal station was to be closed with the two stations on the through line (bottom right hand corner of the picture) Margate East and West continuing to serving the town.

The Southern Region 1961-62 timetable shows a service from Wolverhampton to various towns on the Kent coast, including the note "Miniature Buffet Car and Through Carriages - Margate to Wolverhampton" with onwards connections to Birkenhead, possibly suggesting there was once a through service. So this could be a portion of a Kent coast to Birkenhead train, other portions coming form Ramsgate, Dover and even Hastings and Eastbourne.

Is this "Margate Sands" or "Hall by the Sea" station? The former is shown as being west of Margate (West) and the latter east of the same on maps I have viewed.
