This platform is on a railway siding that ran off the Midland mainline. It was built to service the aircraft production facilities in and around Hendon Aerodrome. It ran off the GNR mainline across Aerodrome Road and ran around the perimeter of the aerodrome, continuing on to aircraft works in the Edgware Road. The branch was probably disused at the time of the photograph and would eventually be removed altogether.

Railway spur with its own platform and passing loop, the track having left the Midland main line and having passed over a level crossing in Aerodrome Road. This spur was laid at the latter stages of WW1, presumably, to service the heightened aircraft production activity as the result of the war. It continued as a single track to production sites around the northern and western perimeter of the aerodrome and thereafter to the Airco factory site on the Edgware Road. It was abandoned and disconnected by 1921 and virtually the entire route has been built upon during the intervening years.
