Dovercourt Transit Camp. This facility was built during WW2 to facilitate the movement of army personnel to and from mainland Europe. After the war, it continued as a transit camp for army personnel serving in Germany using troopships sailing between Parkeston Quay and the Hook of Holland, where the onward journey was completed by military train. The smaller camp on the opposite side of the Ramsey Road was used by the permanent military staff who were based at the main camp. The facility became surplus to requirements in about 1960 when troop transportation was transferred to chartered air services flying from regional airports. Both sites are now occupied by housing.
