From this spot Stanley Spencer painted ,The Bridal Path ,1938. The painting looks toward Furze Platt, the chimney of the Laundry can be clearly seen in the painting

Known locally as the Bluebell wood,.An old coppice wood of Hazel,apart from the Bluebells, Adoxa moschatellina , Anemone nemorosa,Viola odorata and Lamiastrum galeobodon used to be found there, indicators of old woodland. Some of the trunks of the very old Hazel trees had assumed a gnarled and grotesque appearance, similar of an illustration by Arthur Rackham, sadly last time I looked it seems a lot of the older trees had been grubbed out.

Local Knowledge was that these are filled in Bomb Craters from WW2. There are quite a few of these shallow depressions in the area. In the late 60's an UXB was found during Building works at Gardener Rd Furze Platt
