Cummersdale Cotton spinning mill, the four storey building was built in 1854, the smaller building attached to it was built in about 1790. Cotton spinning ceased in the 1890's and the buildings were sold to Stead McAlpin in 1905. Stead McAlpin converted the buildings for their hand block printing.The smaller of the two buildings was used to store the thousands of wooden hand blocks. Block printing ceased in 1978 and the building was used to store white cloth for the more modern screen printing production.The cloth storage was transferred to the main works nearby and the buildings were demolished in 1991/92.The company still continue printing textiles at the works today, (2017).

Cummersdale Corn Mill, first recorded in 1262, used as a corn mill by several different owners over its history. It is mentioned in Issac Tullie's account of the siege of Carlisle in 1644.The corn milling ceased in the 1890's and the building was sold along with the cotton mills and all the cottages to Stead McAlpin in 1905.The building was demolished in 1970's.
