| The St Helens canal is intact in this photo but here the canal was later breached. Sankey Brook was re-routed along the northern section, leaving the canal here to return to it's original course. The western arm is now dry as far as Bewsey Lock except during exceptional floods. |

| Alder Lane now crosses the railway line and Sankey Navigation here. I was told that the road change was at the request of the USAF. |
