Southern Railway, Merchant Navy Class 21C4 'Cunard White Star', at the head of the Devon Belle complete with red name boards on the side of the smoke deflectors and destination boards on the white roofed Pullman Car. The first four coaches the fourth of which is a Pullman Brake are for Plymouth. The fifth vehicle, also a brake, is for Ilfracombe, this portion of the train - another eight coaches - will include an observation car as the last vehicle.

The Devon Belle was officially inaugurated on 20th.June 1947 so this must be a test run. Maybe SR arranged these shots for publicity.
