| St James / St Thomas Gorton
Until 1753 there was a St James church here- just wattle and daub and thatch.
On St Thomas Day, 1755, St Thomas Gorton appeared here.
By 1868 a replacement was required - this one- financed by one Charles Beyer (Beyer Peacock) and in 1871 the re-renamed St James appeared.
The church on this site was therefore St Thomas from 1755 to 1871, and St James before and after that. |
