This view of the beach and cliff at Crimdon was taken on New Year's Day 2013 from the seaward edge of Crimdon Park Caravan site and shows the existing threat of active coastal erosion, which was exacerbated by a long and severe winter in the North East.

This picture shows Crimdon Park during its popular phase as a destination for mainly local people from the nearby colliery settlements such as Blackhall and Horden. From the 1920s, Durham mining communities used Crimdon for their annual holidays. In postwar years, the camping site gave way to a huge caravan park, one of the largest of its kind in the country. This correspondent first visited the beach at Crimdon with his young family 40 years ago, but the halcyon days of the 1950s were already over and the facilities, such as they were, have gradually diminished further. Today, the locality is better known for the Durham Coast National Nature Reserve and for the Hart Warren Dunes Nature Reserve, although the extensive caravan park still appears to be thriving, despite the ever-present threat of coastal erosion!

I have tried to read the fleet name on the buses and I can't. So I'll just have to guess that they might be operated by United. Perhaps someone can tell us more?
