Pumping station built by Eastbourne Waterworks - the chimney here is of brick but the original one was made of iron with a cowl. Fred Delves, a former resident of The Village in Meads, would regale drinkers in The Ship with a tale of how he climbed to the top and sat on the cowl. Channel cut in the rocks by the fishermen who lived in cottages below the Pinnacle and adjacent to the pumping station. Until the 1950s, a metal post, which used to support a lantern, was visible here. For further details contact Eastbourne Local History Society.
