Highgate Village High Street & South Grove, Terminal point of route 611 trolleybuses from Moorgate. Introduced on 10th December 1939 and ran till 19th July 1960. Because Highgate Hill was 1 in 10 the trolleybuses were fitted with coasting and runback brakes, a compulsory stop having to be made to engage the brake [similar to operations at Crystal Palace on route 654].

The back yard of this house in Grovedale/Boothby Roads was where a V2 rocket landed on 5th November 1944. Many killed and injured. Now the site of Bowerman Court.

This factory building - the corner of which is only just visible - was the home of Britains toy Soldiers until they moved around 1966.

Thanks for spotting that. William Britain, the founder of the company, was my 3 x great uncle. His sister Eliza was my 2 x great grandmother. She emigrated to Chicago in 1881.

I think there is a pub on this corner - in 1968 it was called 'The Mother Redcap' and had a good selection of Irish tunes on the jukebox!

I think this is Elthorne Rd - I worked in the DHSS office there in 1968 - the old church hall seen here was still standing then, but the DHSS office was a small new office block. It has gone now.

I think this is Betts Stamping works. It might have been a different company in 1937, but in 1968 that was the name of the company which occupied this site.
