Low Cross. It denoted the limit of the medieval market; erected circa 1700. The High Cross stands out of shot at the other end of Boroughgate, beyond the tree-lined avenue

The Moot Hall. Said to date from 1596, it was rebuilt in 1769. It stands on an island in the middle of Boroughgate. It has served as the town hall and also as the tourist information centre

The Cloisters. A neo-Gothic screen of sandstone designed by R Smirke and erected in 1811. The arms of Appleby appear over the central arch

The White House. Supposedly the subject of the phrase 'Before you can say Jack Robinson'. Robinson was Secretary to the Treasury in the government 1770-82. The building is Listed Grade II*
