Think that these are the oak trees that are still on Saddlescombe Way. Closer to the brook, you can see two more trees that are still in the park (based on what I can see from Google Maps). I remember my mother saying that the trees on Saddlescombe Way probably had been hedgerow trees along the edge of field. It looks as if she was right. |

This is where Harry Beck lived; the draughtsman who designed the iconic map of the London Underground. His house in Court House Rd backed on to what is now the Tube's Northern Line. |

This only became a trolleybus garage on 6.3.1938, having been opened on 7.6.1905 as a tram depot by the Metropolitan Electric Tramways Ltd, being taken over by the LPTB on 1.7.1933. Converted to buses in 1962 and finally closed in 1990. Now demolished. |

At this time, it was a tram depot. The trolleybuses took over in the mid to late 1930's |

Nostalgic picture for me. I grew up in this area and I can see the beginning of what would become the road where we lived just at the left hand edge of the picture. Further up I can make out Woodside Park Road (the first road on the left running away from the fields towards the top left corner) and the house I lived in when I was first married. This was an old Victorian house that was converted into 3 flats. A lot of these fields remained as parkland or were playing fields. |
