I always thought that Smiths Dock was in South Bank. Dormanstown is a suburb of Redcar. Is this actually a photo of South Bank?

The map reference is for South Bank which leaves me wondering why there is a mention of Dormanstown. Can anyone help please? Are there two Dormanstowns?

The Dormanstown electoral division covers some of this area of South Bank! Mystery solved.

Hi Class 31,

Thanks for your comments on this one. You are quite right, unfortunately the ward boundary places this just in Dormanstown rather than South Bank. However, to try and make things a bit clearer I think its probably worth amending the image titles from this set to reflect the proximity to South Bank as Dormanstown on its own is perhaps a bit misleading. The amended captions should appear here on the next upload.

Thanks again,

Angharad

Hi Angharad Thanks for taking the trouble to look into my concerns. Much appreciated.

In 1948, Smiths Dock was very definitely in South Bank. Now however the whole of the industrial strip along the Tees in Redcar and Cleveland is in Dormanstown ward.

Much of the actual town of South Bank is also visible in the upper part of this and adjacent images. This is still in South Bank ward as of 2015.

Thanks Angharad, for putting South Bank in the titles.
