This is a busy scene showing the north end of Darlington Bank Top Station and engine shed.

A classic shot of the railway end of the town and the associated industrial activity, concentrated between the original 1837 London-Birmingham Railway and the impressive 1913 viaduct on the Bushey Curve.

There is plenty of industrial and railway activity in this image, taken just before the outbreak of hostilities in September 1939. Rail enthusiasts will be aware that some of the former London & North Eastern Railway branches shown here have been transformed in the last 30+ years into the Tyne-Wear Metro light rapid transit system.

"Flying Scotsman" was the third A1 Pacific to enter traffic in February 1923 and is shown here as LNER 4472 hauling a full train north to Edinburgh, just two miles north of Durham Station. The junction at Newton Hall was removed after the closure of the branch line to Sunderland in 1964 and the curve was reduced on the East Coast Main Line by April 1970.

An impressive shot of the 1913 viaduct leading off from the main LMSR line on the north side of Bushey Station, which carried the electric railway on a sweeping curve towards Watford High Street Station and the branch line to West Watford and Croxley Green.

A classic image from The Age of Steam which is sure to appeal to Railway buffs, particularly those of London-Midland-Scottish persuasion!!

This magnificent building was originally built by the North Eastern Railway to accommodate Vincent, later Sir Vincent, Raven and his staff. I have summarised the information I have available in the Wiki - any further information will be gratefully received.

This is Leslie Railway Station. The termination of the line that ran through to Markinch on the ECML in Fife. There was also another short branch that led off from this called the Auchmuty Branch.



The main purpose of the line was for goods serving local paper mills in the area.

This is actually the "Tendring Hundred Railway". The line was realigned in 1929/1930 owing to coastal erosion of the original trackbed

The joint L.N.E.R. & Metropolitan Railway Station at Watford, which eventually became the terminus of L.T';s 'Metropolitan' Line. This station will close when the link giving access to Watford Junction Station via the ex-L.M.S. Croxley Branch at 'Two Bridges' round-a-bout.
