In addition to the removal of the viaduct that took a line to mineral tips, much of the ground level track has been rationalised, with the removal of a railway/railway level crossing and the associated approach tracks.
If more of this sort of rationalisation had been carried out around this time the Beeching Report of a decade later might not have been needed. Unfortunately the railway had entered a period were it felt it had a preordained right to be there and that it did not need to change, so much cost saving rationalisation did not happen ... often under the banner that we can't afford to do it!
