Steeple, replacing in 1792 (by subscription, organised by William Inglis) an earlier steeple demolished in the late 1780s to facilitate the rebuilding of the courthouse and jail. Designed by Alexander Laing, Erected under the supervision of William Sibbald. In its current form, as repaired following damage caused by earth tremors in the early nineteenth century. '
