A cutting through the hill in the foreground, a sweeping embankment and over bridge across a valley and a curving line around the hill in the middle of the picture. Easy to see. How much more difficult it was to 'see' the route from the ground when making the original survey and setting out the line with the most basic surveying equipment and no doubt a great deal of walking over the territory. '
