Railway station. Opened 1885 as a joint railway station used by both the Midland Railway and the London and NW Railway following their original separate stations. Both railways had become part of the London, Midland and Scottish railway in the 1923 'Grouping' three years before this photograph was taken.
The LNWR line was finally closed around 1966, the Midland Mainline remains in use. '
