PUB....(now demolished).... next to this was a shop that made and repaired leather goods, from belts to complete saddles. Cannot remember name of gentleman who owned it but remember him saying that he was puzzled how a weighted leather 'ball' had burst.. This 'ball' was the shape of a rugby ball suspended top and bottom on long springs/rods from a frame. It was used to test strengthened glass sheets (possibly windscreens) (perhaps at TRIPLEX). The glass should have shattered long before any damage to the 'ball'.
