This is the remaining administration block of the Central London District School. This was a 'poor law' school intended for underprivileged children. It operated from 1857 until its closure in 1933.
A young Charlie Chaplin and his elder half brother attended this school from 1896-98.
The photograph shows the redevelopment of the school grounds as the Cuckoo Estate. The admin block was retained and serves as the Hanwell Community Centre. '
