' This 'island' of land was largely derelict during the mid-1950s and included the remains of several of the houses in this image. There were also the remains of a number of air raid shelters. We used it as an adventure playground, as kids did in those days. It was later developed for new housing and included an office block that is now the hotel close to the Lampton Road / Great West Road junction. '
