Park View. This row of twelve houses faced (across the river) what was at one time a floral garden. When I lived there at No 7.(1936-1954) however this was used by the council as a dump for road repair materials etc. and as a site for travelling funfairs and cicuses. The Remploy factory was built on this site and the funfairs moved to the top of Glandwr Street on a site known locally as the "red ash" at the entrance to Abertillery park.

The building labelled "Pavilion" is actually the Gaiety cinema which was built straddling the Ebbw river. Small boys used to crawl underneath the building from one end to the other.

The building labelled "Empress" is the Pavilion. The Empress is the large building (light coloured walls with dark roof) in front of it. Both fronted onto Carlyle Street. The Gaiety was in Bridge street.
