THE 'NEW' LEWIS'S DEPARTMENT STORE BUILDING ...SHOWN BEING EXTENDED AND SUSEQUENTLY COVERING THE ROAD CALLED 'THE MINORIES'. THIS WAS THE ROAD EXTENDING TEMPLE ROW TO JOIN 'OLD SQUARE'. IT WAS STILL OPEN TO TRAFFIC UNTIL THE 1960'S BUT A FLIGHT OF STEPS, AT THE 'OLD SQUARE' END MADE IT PEDESTRIAN ONLY WHEN OLD SQUARE WAS SUBSTATIONALLY ALTERED. |

I BELIEVE THESE ARE PEDESTRIAN ARCADES, THE POSITION AND DIRECTION OF THESE PASSAGEWAYS HAVE BEEN RETAINED, ALTHOUGH WITH THE REDEVELOPMENT OF THE SURROUNDING BUILDINGS THEY ARE NOW COMPLETELY COVERED OVER. |
