| Bends in road seen in photograph of Stewarts & Lloyds Clydesdale Steel & Tube works number SAW051755. The small house disappeared between 1928 and 1953! There is also a track leading into a field to the west which is the same in both photographs. I can confirm from this evidence that the photographs are of the same location. |

Site had open hearth furnaces with a seamless tube pilger mill. later in approx. 1957 a twin mill was built to make smaller dia seamless tubes |

Dear all, Thanks for this; I've checked the 3rd and 4th edition OS, and I am happy to validate this location. I've not found any mapping or photographic evidence which shows the sheds build perpendicular to the tracks, but the bends in the road, Kirklea, Kirklee Cottage and the Biggins (the cottages), signal box and water towers all help pinpoint the image. Been unable to find another photo showing the main long shed in this image. There are a good number of other aerial views of the general location - Browse on the word Clydesdale and the Clydesdale Tube Works appears in quite a few. |

Yes, I think 'we' have the location. This time there is a 1939 map. Various features match again: the signal box for example. The twio water towers at top are another useful match. |

Now got a map - 1912 - a bit earlier than photo. Details of Kirklea fit well between map and photo. Situation of S.B. (i.e. signal box) is also a good fit. |

There are clues but not good enough for Googling. Note short shadows = sun is high = looking roughly north. A railway friend thinks signal box could be a Caledonian Railway design. Wagons have mix of lettering: LMS, UNITED, FULTON. Long shed looks new - does it have railway tracks inside I wonder. |

I'll retract the idea of the wagon plant at Horbury - I've just noticed there is a good photo of that plant already on the website. However, the length of the shed and it being adjacent to tracks still give the possibility of some railway industry such as wagons or coaches. |

From the number of chimneys, I'd suggest this mioght be a brick works. There are a number of 'LMS' trucks in the yard, suggesting it's West Midlands / North West England. There are also a number of 'United' trucks. Was there ever a United Brick Company.? |
