This parade of shops (Churchill Parade) was completed two years previously in 1929, presumably to serve the residents of adjoining Churchill Estate.

1931 was the very year that Joseph Jeffress, the then owner of Kenton Grange, started the 7¼" gauge Kenton Miniature Railway here in the grounds. It was run with the assistance The Harrow Model Railway Club and existed until about 1950, when the Grange and its estate were acquired by the local authority.

Stables for Express Dairy shop fronting Kenton Road. Horse drawn milk deliveries continued, in some cases, until the late 1950s or early 1960s, when electric milk floats became universal.

The original Travellers Rest pub. I believe that there was once a beer shop called the Three Horseshoes on the site. It was replaced by the Travellers Rest at the start of the C20th. The building now present is the Rest Hotel as rebuilt in 1933. The largest pub in Middlesex. Lauded in the 60s when it was run by a guy called Joe Mercer who kept very high standards. A very popular venue for large functions, very often held in the Carlton Room at the rear. Now a very dowdy looking Beefeater restaurant situated in an equally down-at-heel Kenton.

Kenton Station. Opened 1912 on what as to become the Watford DC suburban line of the LNWR.. It is quite hard to understand who the station was built to serve as, apart from one or two farms, there was no development in the area at that time. It might be that it was built in anticipation of the Northwick Estate development. This was stalled due to WW1 and never really got going until the 1920s.

Churchill Hall - home to the North Wembley Conservative Club. Not named for Winston but for a distant relative, who was previously the landowner of much of Kenton. This rather ugly utilitarian building also played host during the mid '60s to the New Fender Club and some very well known R&B acts of the time, such as The Yardbirds and The Who. The building is currently in a forlorn state and the site awaits imminent redevelopment as flats.

Only half of the parade of shops has been completed. The part that included the North Met Electricity showroom has yet to be built.

I believe this service road behind the row of shops was called Drayton Way?

I think that it is 'Waye' with an 'e' at the end.

St Leonard's Church. A temporary wooden construction on the site where St Mary's Church would be built and opened in 1936.

I remember this church, because as a boy (in the 1950's) I could hear the bell ringing on a Sunday morning in my bedroom in Elmgrove Gardens a mile or two away. I grew up believing the Church was called St Leonard's as it is in St Leonard's Road!

Railway Terrace. Railway cottages built for railway employees of the LNWR/LMS. Some of the earliest buildings in a developing Kenton, which prior to the 1930s was largely rural with a few scattered farm buildings. Railway Terrace was swept away at about the time of the Sainsbury store development in the old goods yard.
