Royal Albert Dock Hospital (Seamen's)(1890) & London School of Tropical Diseases (1899). The Seamen's Hospital Society set this up and funded it as a branch of the Dreadnought Seamen's Hospital in Greenwich. It mainly dealt with dockworkers' injuries but was also open to the general public. The London School of Tropical Diseases began here, but later moved and combined with other bodies to become the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Building subsidence led to the Royal Albert Dock Hospital moving to Alnwick Road in 1937. Royal Albert Dock Central Station, opened 1880, became a halt in 1930. Closed September 1940 after the line was damaged by bombs.

Cutting leading to a tunnel under the link between the two docks so that passenger trains didn't have to be held up when the surface line across the swing bridge nearby was blocked by shipping movements.

Swing bridge taking the PLA railway system across the link between the Royal Victoria and the Royal Albert Docks. Also carried Connaught Road as well as two railway tracks - separately, so one form of transport didn't have to wait for the other!
