The Shot Tower in the Morledge The Shot Tower, built for the manufacture of lead shot (hot metal would be dropped from the top inside the tower, which would mould into round shapes for gun shot from the action of air drag and gravity), was completed on October 25th 1809 and it was demolished in 1932. The tower was 149.5 ft high, 10 ft wide at the top and 27 ft 11 ins wide at the bottom. The walls were 14 inches thick at the top and 3 ft 2 inches thick at the base. 196 steps covered a distance of 210 feet. The tower consisted of approximately 250,000 brick.

This Tower was owned by Cox Brothers & Co, Lead Merchants. Their other foundry was in Normanton road.
