400,000 year old human remains found here, Barnfield Pit, a disused gravel quarry and the site where the remains of Swanscombe Man (later identified as female) were discovered in 1935/36. At the time, these were the oldest human remains to have been found in the UK. This site is now Swanscombe Heritage Park.
