Tennants Salt Works. Originally built by a joint venture between Charles Tennant and Partners and Jarrow Chemical Company, both alkali manufacturers on Tyneside. Began operation in June 1887. Became part of the United Alkali Company in 1890 and ICI in 1926. Not withstanding this, it was always known as Tennants Works. Ceased production on 19 Mar 1954.
