An interesting point. It appears they did not fill the dock in to enable construction of the power station. Instead it appears to have been built on the bottom of the dock. By not filling in the dock it probably speeded up construction. I remember them filling in the Import dock and was some time before they started contruction on the site.

Blackwall Goods Yard: The East India Company's Pepper Warehouses. More information can be found at the link below. http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=46545 The main road outside this yard is East India Dock Road. I used to get the bus to school in Stepney just outside this yard from 1966 till 1971. frm what i remenber most of the buildings were intact and I am sure they used to demolish/scrap train steam engines on this site.

Blackwall Yard. From Wikipedia Blackwall Yard was a shipyard on the Thames at Blackwall, London, engaged in ship building and later ship repairs for over 350 years. The yard closed in 1987. The yard should not be confused with the nearby Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company which although their head office address was in Blackwall, was based at Leamouth Wharf.[1]
