This is where Dalston Kingsland station is today. But there was also a very early station called Kingsland on this site, closing as long ago as 1865, read more about it here, includes pictures. http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/k/kingsland/index.shtml

These platforms were used by Poplar Trains until 1944, the track not being lifted until the 1960s, despite having no service since WW2. More on Dalston Junction station here: http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/d/dalston_junction/index.shtml

This is Ashwin Street where in December 1881, PC George Cole was shot and killed attempting an arrest of a suspect burglar at the church which still stands on the western side of the road. Cole who had then recently been married for a few months, was then living in Roseberry Place close by, was later buried in Abney Park Cemetery. His murderer who escaped capture, left behind a chisel with a name etched into the handle. Forensically examined, a new science for the period, it revealed the letters 'Orrock'. Although time passed, the culprit was later captured and convicted on the evidence of a witness who had received his boasting admission he had shot the officer. Thomas Orrock paid the ultimate penalty after conviction at the Old Bailey, and he was hung in November 1884.

The Dalston 'curve' linking the direct line from Stratford to the Broad Street section. Removed and never replaced when Overground took over the reconstructed line.

At this point a new station was built in 2010 'Dalston Kingsland' for the Overground Railway line through from Stratford. Dalston Junction further south only took trains through from the southern section, first New Cross, and then from 2013 Crystal Palace and Croydon. This was because the Dalston 'curve' visible in this photo, which originally allowed trains from Startford to pass through Dalston Junction to Broad Street, was removed and never replaced. A shopping centre was built over part of the goods yard.

This is the Jewish Cemetery (REFORM) in Kingsbury Road: burials 1844-1951. Kingsbury Road in modern times has no through section at the northern end.

This is indeed the western end of the market which extends a further 800 yards to the east.

The market street was scene of many agitating meetings set up in the late 30's by Mosley and his blackshirted bully-boys. This 5th-column activity was an example of where the nazi's had sympathisers in Britain before they started WW2.
