This is today part of the West Coast Main Line just north of Stafford Station on the line to Crewe. The line was orininally promoted and opened as the Grand Junction Railway. In 1846 it became part of the London & North Western Railway and from 1923 the London, Midland & Scottish Railway.

RAILWAY- This image has direction North West approximately dead ahead. There are a number of junctions on the railway in this area. From this point railway lines in use run to: To the North (top): Norton Bridge, Stone, Crewe. To the South (bottom) : Penkridge, Walsall, Rugeley, Lichfield, Bloxwich. The junction to the left has been lifted and used to run to Shrewsbury.

The line to the West has been lifted and serves as a track with the name "The Way for the Millenium". The track once ran to Wellington and Shrewsbury. The lifted track was formerly the Shropshire Union Railways and Canal Company's line from Stafford, used more recently for a local Wellington-Walsall service, withdrawn in 2008.

I have been researching the closure date for the passenger service between Wellington and Stafford. Passengers no More by Gerald Daniels and L.A.Dench gives 7.9.64 as the closure date. The same date is given in Wikipedia. I believe that the Wellington-Walsall service withdrawn in 2008 would have operated via Wolverhampton and Shifnal and not via Stafford. I suggest that the last use of the Stafford to Wellington line for passenger services was on 7.9.64 unless anyone knows anything different!

I can only see a history of the Universal Grinding Company and nothing about the railway history?
