In 1962 KDMC asked Central Fife Civil Defence Corps, of which I was a member, if they could provide communications for the motor cycle racing in Beveridge Park. I was positioned on the top side of the Snake Bend with the instructions to radio through the numbers of 1st, 2nd & 3rd riders, this worked out fine until Bob McIntyre "The Flying Scotsman" on the ‘works’ Honda 350cc 4 passed on the last lap and I had to wait until the 2nd & 3rd riders were known before I radioed the information through, by which time Bob McIntyre had finished. This was reported in "The Sunday Post" that Bob McIntyre was faster than the speed of sound! |
