 Note please that there are no bow collectors on the trams or overhead wires. The motive power for the trams in this part of Edinburgh was steam ! A stationary engine powered wires just under the road surface and the drivers gripped them. San Francisco trams (cable cars) gave the same system as did Glasgow Subway up until the 1930s.
