This area between Central Library & the Town Hall became an extension to the town hall. This is still there & since the major refurbishment of the Library in 2014 the walkway between the two buildings (Library Walk) has been partly covered over.

The Paramount Cinema. In 1939 this became the Odeon Cinema. Closed in 2004 and standing empty since, the local authority has granted permission for its demolition and for a 14 storey office block to take its place. The Wurlitzer organ formerly here was moved to the Free Trade Hall, but when this was turned into a hotel in 2004, the organ moved once more, to Stockport Town Hall.

The cross and the light outline on the ground mark the site of St Peters Church, demolished 1907. This is St Peters Square, near to the site of St Peters Fields, where the Peterloo Massacre took place.
