This is a brilliant photo as it shows the area I lived and played in as a child. I was born at 516 Shields Road at the corner with Bethel Avenue. The photo shows that our house was not built yet, but it was located to the right of the bus on Shields Road. Our flat was one of four built at a later date to the other flats in that terrace. We had indoor flush toilets whereas all the other flats had outside toilets. If you zoom in you can see the waste land that two of the flats were built on. The gable end of the existing flats has advertisements for Bisto etc.The factory at the bottom right was Turnbulls which was only demolished a few years ago.

The enclosed photo shows our flat in the 1950s
