Cloth tentering in field. The cloth is stretched over tentering frames to dry. This is the origin of the phrase "to be on tenterhooks" often corrupted to tenderhooks, meaning to be nervy or on edge. The cloth had to be evenly arranged to prevent faults in the finished cloth.
